The Tecan Fluent is a versatile, high-throughput liquid handling automation workstation designed to streamline complex workflows. It offers increased speed, precision, and deck capacity compared to previous generation liquid handlers. The Fluent is utilized for tasks such as library replication, plate reformatting, and hit-picking. The system’s modular design allows for parallel processing, reducing run times for multi-faceted workflows.
The Fluent is equipped with multiple robotic arms to maximize flexibility and throughput:
- Flexible Channel Arm (FCA): Equipped with 8 channels with independent Z-movement and liquid level detection, ideal for tube-to-plate transfers, serial dilutions, and cherry-picking samples from various labware formats.
- Multi-Channel Arm (MCA): A high-speed head, interchangeable between 96- and 384-channels, designed for simultaneous pipetting of entire plates, allowing for rapid replication of 96- and 384-well microplates and efficient reagent distribution.
- Robotic Gripper Arm (RGA): Moves labware across the configurable deck.
Key Features:
- Volume Range: Capable of precise pipetting from low volumes (dynamic range depending on head and tips used, from 0.5 µL - 1000 µL for FCA, 0.25 µL - 125 µL for MCA384, 0.5 µL - 500 µL for MCA96).
- Labware Compatibility: Compatible with standard SBS-format microplates (96, 384, and 1536-well), deep-well blocks, troughs, tubes.
- Speed: Independent arm movements allow the system to perform tasks simultaneously (e.g., gripping a plate while pipetting), increasing throughput.
- Software: Controlled by FluentControl™ software, which offers an intuitive interface for method creation and 3D simulation of runs to ensure safety and accuracy.
