The robot is operated only by screening facility personnel.
The amount of compound transferred is dependent on several parameters:
pin shape and diameter, volume of stock solution, time and rate
of pin withdrawal from the stock solution, and the viscosity of
liquid in the assay plate. We have found that the pin-to-pin variability
is small, approximately 10%.
Pin Washing
To minimize compound carryover, the pin array is washed between
each round of transfer in a sonicating water bath followed by a
methanol bath. If yeast or bacteria is used in an assay, the Screening
facility personnel should be informed so that additional wash steps
between transfers can be performed.
Compound Transfer Time
The robot requires approximately 40 seconds per plate to perform
a transfer and a single wash cycle. Allow 1 minute per plate for
complete transfer, which includes the time needed to place the plates
on the deck of the robot for the transfer.
